Once I attended a wedding and everyone received : a purple letter and a small bag of lavender;
I thought : a letter ! wow! they are sharing and giving ideas as gifts and I absolutely love it!
It was a meaningful experience, so I will share the letter here with you:
It said:
"Loving another is our heart journey with many twists and turns. It exhilarates us and humbles us. It is the most courageous aspect of the human race. It is bitter and it is sweet. It is a lifelong endeavor that we never perfect. Yet in loving we move closer to perfection and we glimpse a peek at the essence of God.
As you move forward into this great adventure of love, I wanted to share with you my thoughts on love that I realized through years of loving imperfectly and learning so much for love truly is " a many splendor thing"
and it added :
1. Love is defining the beloved by everything they are, not what they are not.
2. Love is staying out of their business and staying focused on your own business.
3. Love is curious. Never assume what your beloved means. Always ask questions, many questions and clarify before responding. The key work here is responding: not reacting.
4. Be a person of your word so your beloved can trust you.
5. Find humor in everything. Respond to challenges with the thought, " how fascinating"
6. See your beloved as your teacher. Celebrate the lessons
7. View your beloved through the lens of possibility and imagination. Avoid the lens of negative memories.
8. Give your beloved the benefit of the doubt. Remember, that is the benefit that you always filter your own actions through.
9. Love is a verb not a noun
10. Your love for another is your responsibility. If it is not what you want to be, you need never look beyond yourself
